At the end of the year, the relationship and family panel pairfam will publish a revised scientific use file for scientific analyses. Release 14.1 still contains
- the fully processed and anonymized data of all 14 survey waves (including the DemoDiff and the top-up sample as well as the step-up respondents) in the formats Stata and SPSS (each as German and English versions) - the documentation with all codebooks (in German and English) and questionnaires as well as overviews of the instruments, the framework paper, the Data Manual and Scales Manual, the annual method reports and numerous other materials
Compared to Release 14.0, the new release contains two additional paradata sets on the survey durations as well as metadata on the online survey of wave 14.
You can find out more about the integration and continuation of pairfam at FReDA here.
Save-the-date: The second "International FReDA User Conference 2024 (incl. data users of pairfam and GGS)" will take place on October 7 and 8, 2024 at GESIS in Mannheim. National and international researchers from all disciplines on all topics that use data from "FReDA - The Family Demographic Panel", "pairfam - The Relationship and Family Panel" or the "Generations and Gender Survey (GGS)" are invited. The conference will be held in English.
The aim of the User Conference is to provide a forum for both new and experienced researchers to present preliminary results, receive comments and feedback from experienced data users and collaborators, and facilitate future collaborations. The call for abstracts will be published in January 2024 on www.freda-panel.de.
CPoS has published a special issue with first FReDA data analyses. The special issue entitled "Family Research and Population Analysis - New Findings from the German Family Demography Panel (FReDA)" contains five analyses that illustrate the research potential of FReDA, e.g. in relation to family-related attitudes and actual behaviors, sexual orientations, dyadic analyses, cross-national comparisons and methodological developments. It was edited by Prof. Dr. Martin Bujard (Federal Institute for Population Research), Prof. Dr. Karsten Hank (University of Cologne) and Prof. Dr. Reinhard Pollak (GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences).
As there have been numerous inquiries about the open modules in our survey questionnaire, here is a note in advance: In spring 2024, researchers will again be given the opportunity to have their own questions included in the FReDA context. These can then be analyzed together with all other information from the fixed program. A total of three minutes of survey time is available, which can be filled either by one module or by several shorter submissions from different applicants. We will inform you of the exact deadline for submissions on our website www.freda-panel.de in good time. The selection of the submitted proposals will then be integrated into the fall survey in 2025.
Further information on the open modules can be found here.
We have launched the FReDA Data Portal to provide researchers with an easy and convenient overview of the data and content of FReDA. The freely accessible data portal invites researchers - and of course anyone else interested in FReDA - to explore our panel study in more detail. Get a first impression of FReDA yourself! We would like to take this opportunity to make a request: If you are doing research with FReDA data and have published a paper, please let us know. We will be happy to include your publication in the list of publications with data from the survey.
