Twice a year, FReDA surveys people who live in Germany and were 18- to 49-years-old at the time of the first survey. We refer to these study participants as “anchor persons.” Together, the two surveys from the same year form a wave. Every three years, these survey data can be linked with data from other countries within the framework of the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) programme in order to carry out international comparative analyses. For more details on this sample, see FReDA-GGS anchor persons.
In addition, the FReDA survey data are used to continue the pairfam study samples. The anchor persons of these studies are people who live in Germany and belong to one of four birth cohorts: They were born either from 1971-1973, 1981-1983, 1991-1993 or 2001-2003. You can find more information about this under FReDA-pairfam anchor persons.
Finally, we also ask the partners of all interviewed anchor persons to participate in their own interview as well. This interview is shorter than that of the anchor persons. The questions mainly reflect information that the anchor persons have also provided and make dyadic analyses possible. You can find out more details about these samples at partners and ex-partners.
New data: FReDA publishes the complete data set of the second survey wave. We summarize the most important information and figures for you.
How are the data collected in FReDA? You can find detailed information on the study’s samples, contents and survey modes here.
Once again, you have the opportunity to have your own questions included in the FReDA sample. Send us your suggestions - the submission deadline is 26 May 2025.

The DFG funding of pairfam has ended as planned. But don't worry if you would like to continue your research with this dataset - the pairfam sample is now part of FReDA and will be continued in this way.
Every three years, FReDA is part of the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS). This makes international comparative analyses possible.
FReDA continues the surveys of the pairfam study. This means that these cohorts can still be analyzed.
FReDA also asks the partners of all anchor persons to participate in the study. This makes dyadic analyses possible.
