"FReDA informs" is an ongoing series of events in which researchers present their latest findings based on FReDA data. The next event is on 21 October 2024 from 2 to 4 pm in Berlin and it will show four short presentations. We will present our latest findings on the birth rate and the desire to have children, on the development of life satisfaction, on loneliness in Germany and on the life situation and potential of people seeking protection from Ukraine. After each presentation, there will be space for your questions and a short discussion round.
Second International FReDA User Conference The second International FReDA User Conference was a well-attended forum for researchers from a wide range of disciplines focussing on questions relating to family and partnership. Around 60 people from universities and colleges, national and international research institutions and socio-demographic survey institutes took the opportunity on 7 and 8 October 2024 in Mannheim to discuss the latest analyses and research findings using data from the FReDA panel or data from the German Family Panel pairfam or the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS).
FReDA Autumn School 2024 A very informative introduction to scientific work with panel data, lots of background information specifically on FReDA, plus practical analyses and independent hands-on sessions - this year's FReDA Autumn School once again offered all participants a good opportunity to get to know FReDA.
Reaching people - with "plain language" FReDA is aimed at various target groups: Respondents, researchers, political actors and the interested public are looking for different types of information. We strive to be easily understood by all of them.
On the trail of educational bias The low participation of people with a low level of education affects all social science surveys. A FReDA workshop looked at the causes and strategies for reducing the education bias.
"The family challenge: expectations, compatibility, well-being" On November 14, 2023, the project presented current analyses from the field of family in the "FReDA informs" series. The presentation of the findings on the compatibility of family and career, gender roles, the number of children and well-being met with great interest.
FReDA Autumn School From September 18 - 20, 2023, FReDA organized the "FReDA Autumn School" in cooperation with the research focus "Interdisciplinary Public Policy" (IPP) at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The three-day workshop was aimed at researchers who would like to work with FReDA data. At the event, scientists from the FReDA project team provided a practical introduction to working with the panel's datasets.
"Panels have a future!" FReDA project leader Prof. Dr. Martin Bujard discussed the "Future of Social Science Surveys and Panel Infrastructures" together with Prof. Dr. Cordula Artelt, Prof. Dr. Gert Wagner and Prof. Dr. Christof Wolf. The event took place as part of the scientific conference "Daten.Forschung.Zukunft" on 6 July 2023 in Wiesbaden.
"3 Years of FReDA: Families and Partnerships in Germany and Europe" From 3 to 5 July 2023, the first FReDA user conference took place in Wiesbaden.
"Families During the Pandemic: Pressures, Cohesion and Attitudes" In our format "FReDA informs", we reported on recent findings from FReDA's research on November 10, 2022.
"Life in crisis mode: Families in the Corona Pandemic and the Challenges of today" Based on FReDA data, it is clear what stressed families during the pandemic, but also what strengthened them. At a press conference on 8 November 2022, the results of this analysis were presented.
"(Under-) Representation of Migrants in Surveys and Panels" The generally comparatively low participation of persons with a migration background in samples was the topic of a FReDA methods workshop held by the project in Wiesbaden from 31 March to 1 April 2022.
FReDA regularly offers conferences, workshops and information talks. These events are aimed at different target groups:
