The Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) is a research institute at the interface between research, politics and society. With around 85 employees, the BiB is one of the most important population research centers in Germany.
The project "FReDA - The Family Demographic Panel" (freda-panel.de) aims to establish an infrastructure for collecting and providing survey data for sociological, psychological, economic and other family research. In cooperation with several project partners, a sample representative of the 18 to 49-year-old resident population in Germany was drawn in 2020. Since 2021, this sample has been surveyed twice a year. Partner interviews are also conducted. FReDA integrates the German Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) and the pairfam relationship and family panel. The data is made available to academic researchers free of charge.
A new phase will begin in 2025, when FReDA will be made permanent as a BiB project. FReDA will be further developed and expanded accordingly.
